Chidamoyo Hospital

Background: Chidamoyo Hospital, located in rural northern Zimbabwe, is an 85-bed general hospital caring for a combined 70,000 inpatient and outpatients per year.
An article in The New York Times describes the difficult conditions under which the hospital must operate.
Project: The hospital’s old x-ray machine could not take upright films, and then it broke altogether. At the same time, the film developer also gave out, meaning that the nursing matron had to develop the x-ray pictures by hand!
The nearest other functioning x-ray machine is 100 kilometers away.
As part of a joint purchase of three x-ray machines and two developer units, AMHF is providing Chidamoyo Hospital with a brand new state-of-the-art machine.
The joint purchase of machines by AMHF saved $38,000 over the purchase of three single units/developers alone.
Oversight: Missionary nurse Mary McCarty has been at the institution for 30 years.
Future: The x-ray machine and developer are a one-time purchase.
