Mbingo path glance 2011

Background:  Accurate diagnosis of diseases is difficult in Africa.  Doctors often make a “best guess.”  Learners often do not know what exactly they are seeing and treating.

Project:  Mbingo Baptist Hospital is a dynamic and growing mission institution with a heavy focus on training of African physicians.  The site trains surgeons and internal medicine doctors; future plans include education of gynecologists and medical students.

Dr. Rick Bardin, a pathologist, serves at Mbingo.  Before acquisition of specimen processing equipment, Dr. Bardin’s could not fully utilize his skills.  AMHF, through Worldwide Lab Improvement, purchased the necessary equipment and supplies.  Mbingo trained employees to prepare specimens.

Over the next decade, 10,000 patients are expected to benefit from improved diagnosis and treatment of their conditions.  The available of on-site pathology services allows for proper training of clinicians.

Oversight:  Dr. Rick Bardin, pathologist and medical missionary

Future:  This project is completed.
